The human body undergoes a multitude of chemical transformations that would not be possible without enzymes. Pancreatic enzymes are of great importance to the functioning of our body (chymotrypsin, trypsin, amylase, protease, and lipase).

The human body is nourished by the food it eats, but in order to use it, it needs to transform it into assimilable products. This is done through digestion and absorption.

Digestion is the breakdown, or hydrolysis, of nutrients into smaller molecules to prepare ingested substances for absorption or transport through the intestinal cells. Most digestion takes place in the stomach through the action of hydrochloric acid and pepsin, and continues in the upper part of the small intestine with the action of pancreatic enzymes.

Chymotrypsin, trypsin, and protease transform proteins into peptides and amino acids.

Lipase breaks down long chains of fats into monoglycerides and fatty acids, and carbohydrates are converted into mono- and disaccharides by the action of amylase.

A deficiency in pancreatic enzymes can lead to poor absorption of essential nutrients, which are necessary to maintain excellent physical condition.

Food allergies.

Some rare food allergies, such as inherited lactose intolerance, are of genetic origin; however, most are caused by foreign proteins.

These foreign proteins activate the immune system. This excessive reaction is diagnosed as an allergy.

To treat this food allergy, it can be helpful to remove a methyl group or radical from the foreign protein so that it changes enough to no longer be allergenic for the individual. A potent enzyme preparation based on enhanced pancreatin can remove the foreign protein.

• 320 mcg chromium picolinate (40 mcg chromium).
